Questions about Nodescan Client

Is there a way to see who is currently on line?
Yes. Choose ‘Who’s online?’ from the Tools menu. You can also drag users from this list into your Contacts list.

Double click the attachment icon and it will be downloaded to the download folder you have selected in the Preferences window.

How do I attach a file to an Instant Message?
Either drag a file from your hard disk and drop it on to the attachment icon or double click the attachment icon and choose a file using your system’s file chooser.

Can I attach more than one file to an instant message?
Not at present. You should compress the files (as a zip file) to combine the files first.

How do I attach a URL (Web page link) to an Instant Message?
Drag the URL (link) from a browser and drop it on to the attachment icon in a new instant message window. To attach the URL for a web page drag the address from the browser’s address bar. When an instant message with a URL link attachment is received, drag the attachment icon to a browser window. The browser should load the URL. You can also double click the attachment and have Nodescan Client open it in your browser, or drag the attachment to your desktop to create a link.

Yes. When you log in you should receive instant messages that have been sent while you were off line.

Q. Where are the Hosts, Contacts and other settings files stored?
In the “NodeScan_Client_Data” folder. In the Windows and Linux versions this folder is in the same folder/directory as the application. In the Mac OS X version of Nodescan Client this folder is inside the application (package). To replace or copy these settings right-click on the Nodescan Client application and choose”Show Package Contents”. The folder is inside the “Resources” folder.

Q. Are messages transferred amongst hosts (e.g. can Jack send a message from “jack@brokencrown.com” to “jill@thetopofthehill.com”)?
A. Not yet, sorry. Hopefully soon.

Q. What will happen if I try?
A. You will receive a Message not Delivered (User not found) error.

Q. Is there any way to get around this stupid limitation?
A. You can create an account on the other host and log in (if it is public).

Q. If I log in to two different hosts how do I know or change which one is active?
A. In the Accounts window (Edit -> Accounts), right-click on an account. If “Set as Active Account” is greyed-out, that account is active.

Q. Are User and Contact the same?
A. We use “user” to mean any user connected to a host and “contact” to mean a user that you have “favourited” by adding to your contacts list.
